Despite the vagaries of the UK transport system, Farmers Club ladies were not to be deterred from homing in on the club on Monday 14th November for their annual ladies lunch.
The gathering took place in the newly renovated Farmers Suite and accommodated a total of 28 ladies, hosted by Mrs Sue Butler, wife of our 2016 Chairman. Sue was very pleased to welcome Ms Prue Leith (who also had transport difficulties) to the Club, as the guest of honour and speaker at the lunch.
A hugely enjoyable lunch, which was very well received commented upon, was followed by an introduction from Sue, and a candid, disarmingly honest talk from Prue covering many areas of her life, already known to most, but also to her burgeoning career as a fiction writer, rather than the food and cookery writing she had probably been best known for.
This was extremely interesting and Prue was good enough to answer a few questions from our ladies afterwards. On completion of the lunch, which went on for 40 minutes over time we expected due to the fun and lively conversation which was obviously taking place (apparent to those of us outside the Farmers Suite), Prue then signed copies of her latest novels for the luncheon party.
All in all, an excellent early afternoon event, and especial thanks to Teresa Wickham for facilitating Prue’s attendance from her very busy commitments diary.
