It was a real privilege to be the first to have afternoon tea at the Farmers Club. What great timing to be in London that week-end!
It is something I have enjoyed with my parents, for many years. Afternoon tea is, in my opinion, a real institution & a little decadent/a treat. Often when I am in London for business, I pop into the Farmers club for a cup of tea & a piece of your delicious fruit cake or your ‘melt in the mouth’ shortbread & have thought, on many occasions, it would be lovely if you did afternoon tea. It is a treat.
So, I was thrilled to be able to enjoy it on Saturday. It was delicious, the sandwiches were filled with the good old favourites-spot on! just what you want, nice and traditional. Perfect smoked salmon, gammon, egg & cucumber with mint. Lovely cakes & scones.
The savoury onion scone was an interesting surprise & complimented by the onion relish. The shortbread was as good as ever-melt in the mouth. The custard tart vanished in a flash-a sweet treat.
I do love a fruit scone & it was served with delicious jam & clotted cream. I fall into the preserve first & then cream…is that the Devonshire way or the Cornish way? I am not sure which camp I fall into?!
All complimented well with a good pot of tea-heavenly!
In true Farmers Club style, the staff were as ever, delightful, very attentive & courteous. I would definitely recommend afternoon tea at the farmers club; a real treat!
I will be back very soon.
